SS Motor Garage Services
About Your M.O.TIf your vehicle is 3 years or older you are required by law to have an annual safety check, the ministry of transport test, commonly known as the M.O.T Test. The purpose of the M.O.T test is to ensure the vehicle meets the minimum safety level required by law. During the M.O.T test the nominated tester, a person authorised by the government body called VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) will conduct an inspection and a comprehensive series of checks around the vehicle, including the interior, exterior, under the bonnet and under the vehicle. The result of each check is recorded- if the vehicle passes a VT20 ‘pass’ certificate is issued. If the vehicle fails to meet the required standard a VT30 ‘failure’ document is issued. Items that are not quite a failure, but worthy of a mention to you so you can keep an eye on them are drawn to your attention as ‘advisory’ items. It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is examined every 12 months. Without a current M.O.T certificate, you will be unable to drive your vehicle lawfully or renew your road fund license. Recent computerisation of the M.O.T testing system by VOSA means police and mobile camera units can now check remotely to see if your vehicle has a current M.O.T. The penalty for not having an up to date M.O.T certificate could be a fine. Also if the vehicle is involved in an accident you may be asked to produce your M.O.T certificate. An insurance claim could be affected by the absence of your M.O.T, especially in the case of injury. You can book an MOT up to 28 days in advance of its due date. In fact it is not widely known that the expiry date on your new MOT is 12 months from the expiry of your old one. This means you could have an MOT that last 13 months. What's included in my service? To keep your car maintained you should have it regularly serviced, the level of service you should have depends on the years or miles you clock up over a period of time. We offer a range of 3 types of services to suit which ever you require. Please see the chart by clicking here for examples of what is involved in each service. Oil Service - In between regular service Interim Service - every 6 months or 6,000 miles or which ever is first Full Service - every 12 months or 12,000 miles or which ever is first Air ConditioningOver 2/3 of vehicles are fitted with air conditioning and climate control systems as standard these days. Many of us are familiar with using air-con in our car on both hot and cold days, but not many people are aware that like other parts of your car, the air-conditioning system also needs regular attention to make sure it is working efficiently. We recommend a Air Conditioning Recharge for the following reasons:
You may not be
aware that over 10% of air-con gas permeates from the air-con system
every year, which means that it may not work as well as it should. This
is why car manufacturers recommend your Air-Con system is recharged with
gas and lubricant every 2 years. This service is not part of routine
vehicle servicing, so if your vehicle is more than 2 years old it’s
probably due a recharge. SS Motors now offers a complete air conditioning recharge service available on site. Operated on a drive-in basis there is usually no need for an appointment. Within an hour the whole recharge process is completed. Our trained technicians will show you the difference in your Air-Con system before and after recharge. Air-Con systems not fully recharged will be less effective and have to work harder putting more strain on the engine and using more fuel. If your Air-Con system has not been recharged in 2 years it will dramatically reduce efficiency. During the hotter summer month’s motorist use the Air-Con system more; however your system is also useful in winter. Air-Con systems create dry warm air rather than the normal humid air from outside and this de-mists your car windscreen more quickly. To keep your Air-Con system fully charged all year, why not call in to SS Motors and have your vehicle’s air conditioning system recharged with gas and lubricant today.
